Zambia will take the 2021 Cosafa tournament seriously as it has birthed many opportunities in its 20-year history, according to Chipolopolo captain Kabaso Chongo.
“We will take it, a game at a time, like the first match against Comoros, we have to take it very seriously. If we win the first game, it will give us the impetus to win the next game,” the TP Mazembe defender told FAZ official website.
Zambia won the last edition of the regional tournament that was held in Durban. Kabaso believes that any sort of complacency would be misplaced this year.
“We will not approach the tournament that we are champions, we will have to work hard for things to be okay. Those who will be in the starting eleven have to work hard.”
The Milutin Sredojevic coach Zambia open their tournament with what looks like an easy outing against islanders, Comoros on the 7th of July.
“There is no small tournament, for us even friendly games are very important. Cosafa has created opportunities for a lot of players. Others have been bought by foreign clubs on account of a good Cosafa tournament,” he said.
The five-time winners are also using the tournament as preparations for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
