She was the first Zambian woman to play professional football. After that, she became Zambia’s first captain at the national team’s first-ever appearance at the Olympic Games. Barbara Banda has now become the first African woman footballer to score a hat-trick at the Olympics as she continues to break barriers in her incredible sports journey.
The 21-year old striker scored three goals for the Shepolopolo of Zambia as they opened their maiden Olympics against the Netherlands in Japan. Banda, who once ventured into boxing, continues to delivering positive knock-out blows for women’s football.
Banda is already a Golden Boot Award winner in China where she plays for Shanghai Shengli. She scored an incredible 18 goals in 13 matches last season.
Barbara hit the net in the 19th, 82nd, and 83rd minute to set yet another mark in the game of women’s football. Her feats continue to shine a bright light on the game that continues to be marginilised by corporate Africa.
