The president of the Confederation of African Football, Dr Patrice Motsepe once again re-iterated that there was never a thought of moving AFCON 2021 from Cameroon, as an intriguing draw was conducted in Yauonde on Tuesday evening.

The legendary Roger Milla brought put the gold trophy that the 24 teams will be battling before Samsom Adamu, Head of Competitions at CAF, conducted the draw with some of the legends of African football.

The hosts, Cameroon, will have to get past Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, and Ethiopia in Group A if they are to have any hope of winning the African football bi-annual jamboree. It will mark fifty years since The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon lifted the trophy on home soil.

Defending champions Algeria are in Group E with Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone and Cote D’Ivoire. Algeria are on a recording breaking 27 game unbeaten run and will once again be strong favourites.

South Africa legend Lucas Radebe was at the draw in Cameroon, and stated he will throw his weight behind neighbours Zimbabwe. The Warriors are in Group B with another Southerner Malawi, 2019 losing finalists Senegal, and dark horse Guinea.

First timers Comoros find themselves in Group C and will do battle with Gabon, Ghana and Morocco for a place in the knockout stages. This is one group that could throw up some twists.

The tournament, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to kick off on 9 January with Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso.
