South African football fans can expect an unforgettable Soweto Derby experience on Saturday, 01 February when the two iconic teams face off for the first time this season in the Betway Premiership.

This was confirmed on Thursday, 30 January, during a media briefing in Soweto. Representatives from Betway, the Premier Soccer League (PSL), and the two rival clubs, Orlando Pirates FC and Kaizer Chiefs FC, attended the event.

The Buccaneers take on arch-rivals, Amakhosi at a sold-out FNB Stadium in what promises to be an explosive encounter between the two giants of South African football.

With Saturday being the first Soweto Derby of the Betway Premiership season, proud sponsors Betway have confirmed a host of exciting fan activities to complement what promises to be yet another memorable edition of the biggest fixture on the continent.

Addressing members of the media from the iconic Soweto Theatre, Betway unpacked some of its exciting plans ahead of Saturday’s spectacle.

“The Soweto Derby is undoubtedly one of the biggest fixtures on the continent, drawing millions of TV audiences from across Africa. As proud sponsors of the Betway Premiership, it makes sense for us to further amplify the magnitude of this historic fixture by introducing innovative fan engagement activities that will add to the Betway Premiership Soweto Derby experience,” said Betway’s Head of Marketing, Mark Rowles.

Betway will offer football fans an opportunity to win big during the half-time break with an exciting activation where a select few will put their football skills on display in front of a sold out FNB Stadium. Betway customers who participate in the pre-game activations stand to win up to R200,000.

“With the support of the Premier Soccer League and the host clubs, we have curated a unique Betway experience for the fans to complement a thrilling match between two South African football giants. The Soweto Derby is about the rich history and passion, and as Betway we want to contribute to the legacy of this fixture,” he concluded.

In the build-up to Saturday’s much-anticipated encounter, Betway’s brand ambassadors will be visiting various shopping centres and high-foot traffic areas to engage with fans and share their most memorable Lisegazini. Forever Soweto Derby moments.

Gates at the FNB Stadium open at 11h00 and fans are encouraged to make use of the various park and ride facilities. The match is sold-out and no ticket sales will be available at the gate. Fans without tickets are urged to enjoy the action from the comfort of their homes.
