CAF Secures Record Breaking Media Coverage For AFCON 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a landmark expansion of its global media footprint ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, confirming 20 media rights partnerships across 30 European territories.

AFCON 2025 will be hosted in Morocco from 21 December, and CAF says the new broadcast agreements represent the most extensive European coverage in the tournament’s history.

Historic free-to-air coverage in the UK

The headline deal sees Channel 4 in the United Kingdom acquire rights to broadcast all 52 matches live on free-to-air television — a first for AFCON in the UK and a major boost for accessibility and fan engagement.

CAF also confirmed that AFCON 2025 will be available free-to-air in Greece and Norway, following partnerships with ERT and VGTV respectively.

Expanded reach across Europe

In Spain, CAF has secured a new partnership with broadcast powerhouse Movistar, citing the country’s strong Moroccan diaspora and longstanding links between Spanish football and African talent as key factors behind the agreement.

Several broadcasters from previous AFCON editions will also return for 2025, including:

  • Sport Italia (Italy)
  • Ziggo (Netherlands)
  • SportDigital (Austria, Switzerland and Germany)

CAF believes the continuity, combined with new strategic markets, underlines the growing value of African football on the global stage.

“This record number of broadcast partnerships across Europe reflects the growing global appeal and commercial strength of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations and African football,” CAF said in a statement.

Global exposure beyond Europe

AFCON 2025’s broadcast reach will extend far beyond Europe. According to Moroccan outlet Le360, the tournament will, for the first time, secure widespread coverage across Latin America and North America, with major networks such as ESPN, CBS Sports, and La Tribuna among those expected to carry matches.

Broadcast innovation for AFCON 2025

Earlier reports also revealed that AFCON 2025 will mark another milestone, becoming the first edition of the tournament to be produced using High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. The upgrade will deliver sharper visuals, richer colours and an enhanced viewing experience for audiences worldwide.

With record-breaking broadcast deals, cutting-edge technology and Morocco’s world-class infrastructure, AFCON 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most widely viewed and technologically advanced editions in the tournament’s history.
