Kaizer Chiefs Strengthen Attack With Signing of Stellenbosch Star Langelihle Phili
Kaizer Chiefs have added another exciting young talent to their squad after securing the services of winger Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC ahead of the new season.
The 21-year-old arrives at Naturena following an outstanding campaign with Stellenbosch, where he established himself as one of the Betway Premiership’s standout performers. His impressive displays earned him both the club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards after finishing the campaign with nine goals.
Phili’s performances attracted interest from several clubs, but Chiefs ultimately won the race for the highly rated attacker, who is expected to provide additional firepower for head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
Comfortable on either flank, although naturally more effective on the left wing, Phili offers tactical flexibility in the final third. His arrival increases competition in the wide attacking positions, where Luke Baartman recently featured in Chiefs’ 3-1 victory over Kruger United, while Pule Mmodi has regularly occupied the role in previous seasons.
The Durban-born winger made his first-team breakthrough during the 2023/24 campaign and quickly became a key figure for Stellenbosch. Over the course of 72 appearances across all competitions, he scored 11 goals and contributed two assists, underlining his growing influence in the squad.
Chiefs continue to strengthen their squad as they prepare for a demanding 2026/27 season, which includes participation in the CAF Confederation Cup. With the club expected to play between 50 and 55 matches across all competitions, adding depth and quality has become a priority.
Phili is no stranger to continental football, having featured for Stellenbosch in the CAF Confederation Cup over the past two seasons. That experience is expected to be valuable as Amakhosi aim to compete on multiple fronts in the months ahead.
