Black Stars: Queiroz Names 9 Fresh Faces for Ghana vs Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia AFCON Qualifiers
Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has moved to strengthen his squad with a fresh batch of additions, after medical uncertainties surrounding some of his original selections forced his hand ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, plus a friendly against Morocco.
Four defenders headline the reinforcements — Jonas Adjetey (VfL Wolfsburg), Alidu Seidu (OGC Nice), Ebenezer Annan (Rapid Bucharest) and Rockson Yeboah (Osasuna) — while Slovan Bratislava’s Rahim Ibrahim adds fresh legs in midfield.
Up top, Queiroz has drafted in a quartet of attacking options in Brandon Thomas-Asante (Coventry City), Mohammed Fuseini (Derby County), Benjamin Tetteh (Kalba) and Felix Afena-Gyan (Igdir FK), giving the Black Stars boss plenty of firepower to call upon.
Camp Underway in Accra
The Black Stars officially opened camp in Accra on Monday, September 21, as preparations gather pace for what promises to be a defining week for Queiroz’s side — first the qualifying double-header against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, followed by a testing friendly against Morocco.
Training continued on Tuesday as the squad sharpens up ahead of the assignments, with Queiroz using the sessions to assess his options following the late reshuffle.
With a tricky group featuring three-time African champions Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana will need their squad at full strength — and these late additions suggest Queiroz is leaving nothing to chance as the Black Stars look to bounce back from their World Cup disappointment and kickstart their AFCON 2027 campaign on the front foot.
