Wins for DR Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Burkina Faso in the Journey to AFCON 2027
DR Congo continued their perfect start to PAMOJA 2027 qualifying, edging past Zimbabwe 2-1 in Harare on Monday to move to six points from six on Matchday 2 of the road to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania 2027.
The Congolese were rewarded for a lively first-half showing, with Yoane Wissa continuing his rich vein of scoring form for the national side. The forward pounced in the 30th minute after Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze failed to deal with a cross, turning the loose ball home to hand DR Congo the lead.
Wissa then turned provider, slipping in Samuel Moutoussamy for a goal the veteran midfielder had waited a long time for — his first in a DR Congo shirt since making his international debut back in 2019, a milestone that arrived after more than 60 caps of service.
Zimbabwe rallied late, with Marshall Munetsi turning home from the back post in stoppage time to notch his third goal of the qualifying campaign already — but it wasn’t enough to deny the visitors all three points.
Equatorial Guinea Edge Sierra Leone in Group E Thriller
Elsewhere in Group E, Equatorial Guinea claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Sierra Leone in neutral Yaoundé, with Spanish-born forward Loren Zúñiga striking inside the opening minute to settle the contest early. Sierra Leone dominated possession and chances for large spells afterward but couldn’t find a way back into the game.
The results leave DR Congo firmly in control at the Group E summit with six points, while Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea sit level on three apiece. Sierra Leone remain without a point after two matches.
Burkina Faso Go Top of Group F Behind Teenage Star
In Group F action, Burkina Faso moved top of the standings with a 1-0 win over Central African Republic in neutral Casablanca. Teenager Aboubacar Camara scored the game’s only goal on the hour mark — in just his second senior appearance — to hand the Burkinabe a deserved victory and four points from two games.
Mauritania, who sit on three points from a single outing, face Benin — currently on one point — in neutral Abidjan on Tuesday, a clash that promises to reshape the picture in Group F.
Tunisia and Botswana Share the Spoils in Rades
Meanwhile, Tunisia and Botswana played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Radès, with both sides still searching for their first win of the campaign. Botswana’s Thatayaone Kgamanyane opened the scoring in the 37th minute, only for Tunisia’s Hazem Mastouri to strike twice either side of half-time and turn the game in the hosts’ favour. Botswana showed real resolve to fight back, though, with Lebogang Ditsele restoring parity on the hour mark to ensure the points were shared.
The draw leaves both Tunisia and Botswana on two points in Group H, with an intriguing twist to the section — co-hosts Uganda have already secured their place at the finals, meaning only the highest-placed side outside of Uganda can qualify from the group. That dynamic adds extra weight to every point picked up across the remaining fixtures, with Uganda and Libya set to meet on Tuesday.
