USM Alger Head for South Africa as Sundowns Super Cup Showdown Draws Closer

USM Alger are set to leave Algeria for South Africa on Tuesday evening as preparations intensify for Sunday’s CAF Super Cup showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Algerian Confederation Cup champions will travel to Johannesburg before completing their journey to Pretoria, where they face Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.

USMA head to South Africa boosted by a 2-0 away victory over CS Constantine, with coach Lamine N’Diaye expected to have an almost full-strength squad available.

Forward Houssam Eddine Ghacha will miss the trip as he continues treatment in Qatar for a knee problem. However, midfielder Abderraouf Benguit is expected to return after missing the Constantine victory with a minor injury.

N’Diaye has already shifted his attention towards Sundowns, describing the South African champions as a formidable opponent ahead of the one-off continental final.

Sundowns, meanwhile, are looking to build momentum following their 4-1 league victory over Durban City and respond to the disappointment of their early CAF Champions League elimination.

The Brazilians will also have home advantage as they chase another continental trophy in Pretoria.

CAF has confirmed the Super Cup will kick off at 15:00 SAST on Sunday, 8 November, with the winner taking home US$500,000.

With USM Alger now heading for South Africa, the countdown to Pretoria is officially gathering pace.
