Real, Factual.

Serbian coach, Veselin Jelusic has left his post as head coach of the Lesotho national men’s team Likuena after 22 months on the job.

The Lesotho Football Association agreed to part ways with Jelusic after a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The result left Likuena, as the Lesotho national team is known, stuck at the bottom of Group H.

“The National Executive Committee of the Lesotho Football Association and the senior national team coach, Mr. Veselin Jelusic have reached an agreement to part ways amicably with immediate effect after 16 months working together,” read a statement from the Football Association.

The result against Comoros came after losses to Togo and COSAFA neighbours Eswatini in friendly matches. With the COSAFA Cup just around the corner, Lesotho felt a change was necessary.

“We thank Mr. Jelusic for his contribution to the Association and wish him well in the future. The Association will make further announcements in due course,” concluded the media release.

An interim coach might be appointed before the last game of the AFCON qualifiers in September. The World Cup qualifiers might see a permanent coach in charge of the mountain kingdom.
