Andy Rinomhota Withdraws From Zimbabwe Squad

Zimbabwe midfielder Andy Rinomhota has withdrawn from the Warriors’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) camp with immediate effect after an urgent family matter required his full attention.

In an emotional statement, the midfielder admitted he is devastated to miss out on AFCON, describing the tournament as one of the highest honours in African football. However, Rinomhota explained that the timing of the situation means he is not in the right mental space to give the national team the level of commitment and performance it deserves.

“I wish to inform the public that I have had to withdraw from the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team camp, effective immediately, due to an urgent family matter that requires my full personal attention,” Rinomhota said.

“I am deeply gutted to miss out on a tournament of this magnitude. Representing Zimbabwe at the highest level has always been a source of pride, and while I was fully committed to this opportunity, the timing of this family matter means I am not in the right psychological space to give the team my very best.”

The midfielder stressed that the decision was not taken lightly, reaffirming his long-term commitment to the Warriors and expressing his desire to return once the situation is resolved.

“I remain fully committed to the national team and look forward to returning to duty once the family matter has been resolved.”

Rinomhota also extended his best wishes to his teammates and the technical staff, pledging his full support from afar as Zimbabwe prepares for the continental showpiece.

“I would like to wish my teammates and the entire technical group the very best at the tournament. I will be supporting them wholeheartedly and praying that Zimbabwe goes all the way.”

He concluded by thanking the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for their support and respectfully asked for privacy for himself and his family during this difficult period. The Association expects the midfielder to return.

“Andy Rinomhota remains part of the national team setup, and the Association looks forward to his return once the matter has been resolved,” a statement from ZIFA read.

The midfielder’s withdrawal is another setback for the Warriors following recent squad disruptions, with Rinomhota widely regarded as a key stabilising presence in Zimbabwe’s midfield. As AFCON approaches, his absence will be keenly felt both on and off the pitch.
