Ethiopia Names Squad for AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

Ethiopia have announced a 23-man squad ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying preliminary round clash against São Tomé and Príncipe.

The squad, unveiled on 11 March by head coach Yohannes Sahle, marks an important moment for the Ethiopia national football team, who are determined to return to continental competition after missing the last two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nicknamed the Walia, Ethiopia view the two-legged tie as a crucial opportunity to reignite their presence on the African football stage.

First Competitive Matches for Sahle

The upcoming fixtures will also represent the first official matches in charge for Sahle since his appointment on 27 December.

The coach will be eager to make a strong start as he begins his tenure leading the national team, with qualification for AFCON remaining a key objective for Ethiopian football.

Qualifier Dates and Venues

The first leg will be played on 27 March 2026 at the El Abdi Stadium.

The return leg is scheduled for 31 March at the newly renovated Dire Dawa Stadium, which recently received approval from the Confederation of African Football to host international matches.

With a place in the main qualification rounds at stake, the tie promises to be a significant test for both Ethiopia and São Tomé and Príncipe national football team.
