The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that the 2025 MTN8 Final will take place at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on 13 September at 18:00, with defending champions Orlando Pirates facing Stellenbosch FC.
Mbombela, with its giraffe-inspired roof and zebra-striped seating, has become a familiar stage for big occasions. The venue hosted the 2011 Nedbank Cup final, where Pirates beat Black Leopards 3-1, and the 2024 Nedbank Cup final, where the Buccaneers again emerged victorious, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns to retain their crown.

While its unique architecture and history — including matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations — make it a standout choice, last year’s Nedbank Cup final at the stadium wasn’t without controversy. Heavy congestion around the venue saw some supporters stuck in traffic for more than two hours, sparking frustration and calls for improved logistics.
With the Buccaneers returning to a venue that has brought them luck, and Stellenbosch chasing their first major cup triumph, anticipation is already building. The spotlight will not only be on the football but also on how smoothly the stadium and surrounding infrastructure handle another marquee event.
The stage is set in Mbombela — now it’s up to Pirates and Stellies to deliver a final worthy of the setting.
