Rhulani Targets Glory At New Club

South African coach Rhulani Mokwena has officially been unveiled as the new head coach of Libyan giants Al Ittihad Tripoli, setting his sights on restoring the club to the top of African football.

Speaking after his unveiling, Mokwena made his intentions clear — success is the only objective.

“We want to restore Al Ittihad to its former glory and compete at the highest level again.”

A Club Built on History

Mokwena acknowledged the weight of expectation that comes with leading one of Libya’s most decorated clubs.

He highlighted Al Ittihad’s rich history and passionate fanbase, stressing that both he and the club share the same ambition — to return to dominance domestically and make a strong impact on the continental stage.

Full Circle Moment

In a personal reflection, Mokwena revealed that his connection to the club goes back years.

He recalled watching Al Ittihad compete in the CAF Champions League in 2000, including their clash against Mamelodi Sundowns — a moment that left a lasting impression on him.

Now, he returns with the responsibility of taking the Libyan side back to that level.

Message to the Fans

Mokwena also sent a strong message to the supporters, promising commitment, passion and a team that will fight for the badge.

“We are excited for this journey… we will build a team that represents these colours with pride.”

New Chapter in Libya

The move marks a fresh chapter in Mokwena’s coaching career as he takes on one of North Africa’s most demanding roles.

With expectations high and ambition clear, all eyes will be on whether the South African tactician can guide Al Ittihad back to domestic dominance and continental relevance.
