Ritchie: Mamelodi Sundowns Victory Relieved Pressure
Maritzburg United defender Keegan Ritchie believes the victory against the DSTV Premiership runaway leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns relieved a bit of the pressure on the KZN club ahead of the game against Sekhukhune United.
Maritzburg United are currently four points above the relegation spots on the DSTV Premiership log, and with nine games to go, every point becomes critical.
“We’re confident coming off a victory against Sundowns, which was a big one for us. We’re still there, we’re still under pressure but I think it relieved a bit of the pressure for us. So we’re confident, the guys have been preparing well and we’re just ready to go,” Ritchie said ahead of the league encounter against ninth-placed Sekhukhune United.
Thirty points are usually the cut-off point in the DSTV Premiership if a team avoids play-offs or direct relegation. Ritchie is well aware that the team will have to fight till the end with only nine games to play in the season.
“For now we can’t be too pretty. We’ve got to win ugly games, you know, sometimes if the football is not going well we got to just put the work in and we got to fight till the end,” noted the experienced defender.
A win for Maritzburg United will put real daylight between them and the foot of the table, with both TS Galaxy and Baroka currently sitting on 17 points.
