Sacko Camara Turns AFCON 2025 Into a Continental Road Adventure With Purpose

Dec 4, 2025

Franco-Ivorian comedian Sacko Camara is back on the road — literally — as he launches another extraordinary cross-continent road trip ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. What started as a joke two years ago has now become one of the most colourful and heart-warming traditions leading into Africa’s biggest football tournament.

Camara went viral in 2023 when he drove from Paris to Abidjan for AFCON Côte d’Ivoire, after joking that he’d hit the road instead of paying rising flight prices. That “small joke” turned into a continental odyssey across Europe, the Sahara and multiple African borders — and football fans absolutely loved it.

For AFCON 2025, he’s doing it again — but this time, in reverse.

Abidjan → Morocco: A New Route, New Stories

Camara’s 2025 journey begins in Abidjan and will take him through Guinea, Senegal, and Mauritania before finally crossing into Morocco, where AFCON will kick off in December.

On paper, it looks simple. In reality, it’s anything but.
He expects rough terrain, unpredictable road conditions, and long stretches through remote regions — but that’s part of the thrill.

More Than A Road Trip — A Humanitarian Mission

This year, Camara has partnered with the NGO WhatWater to support clean-water initiatives in communities along his route. At every stop, his team will meet residents, document their stories, and highlight water-access challenges.

The road trip becomes a platform for awareness — blending football, culture, and social impact.

A Diaspora Homecoming

Born in Abidjan and raised in France, Camara sees AFCON as a cultural reunion.
For him, the tournament represents unity, identity, and the shared heartbeat of African football. His travels create a bridge between the diaspora and the continent, capturing moments that celebrate Africa’s diversity.

Destination: Morocco — But the Real Story Is the Road

While the end point is Marrakech, Camara insists the true story lies in:

  • the kilometers driven
  • the people met
  • the passion for the game shared across borders

His mission is to reach Morocco before the opening match — and to arrive with a story shaped by Africa itself.
