The South African Football Association, SAFA, is going on a countrywide drive to recruit potential referees. Renowned retired referee Victor Gomes who chairs the SAFA Referees Committee is eager to tap into new blood for the football officiating fraternity.
“We want to broaden our current pool, hence we are looking for fresh and new ideas,” Gomes told SAFA Media.
SAFA is in charge of the match officials for the leagues run by Premier League Soccer. Officiating has been a bone of contention for a few years with some calls for referees to be professionalised. Those wishing to become referees can contact SAFA provincial secretaries as listed below.
