Stellenbosch FC Secure Experienced Defender Wayde Jooste on Free Transfer
Stellenbosch FC have strengthened their defensive ranks with the signing of South Africa international Wayde Jooste, who joins the club on a free transfer ahead of the second half of the season.
The 34-year-old defender brings a wealth of experience to the Cape Winelands, boasting over 200 professional appearances across the Premier Soccer League. Jooste has previously turned out for Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Highlands Park, Orlando Pirates, Maritzburg United and AmaZulu, establishing himself as one of the most reliable defensive options in South African football over the past decade.
Jooste also offers valuable international pedigree. The versatile defender is a full Bafana Bafana international and was part of the South Africa squad that finished runners-up at the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), underlining his continued relevance at the highest level.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Jooste admitted that joining Stellenbosch FC was an easy decision.
“Stellenbosch is a club that I have admired for some time. It’s a club that has been very successful in the last few seasons and it’s special for me to become part of that,” he said.
“A few weeks ago, I got a call from coach Steve, and he asked me if I would be interested, and I don’t even think he finished his question before I said yes.
I’ve been praying and believing that something will come up for me, and something as good as this I could never say no to. I’m honoured and privileged to be part of the club.”
Stellenbosch FC have built a reputation as one of the most well-run and competitive sides in the DStv Premiership in recent seasons, and Jooste’s arrival adds leadership, experience and depth to Steve Barker’s squad.
The veteran defender could make his debut for the Maroons on 20 January 2026, when Stellenbosch return to league action against Sekhukhune United.Stellenbosch FC have strengthened their defensive ranks with the signing of South Africa international Wayde Jooste, who joins the club on a free transfer ahead of the second half of the season.
