With or without the fans, ZESCO’s CAF Champions League match against Dynamos FC is a must-win game. This is according to ZESCO’s head coach, Goerge Lwandamina. The Zambian is trailing 1-0 from the first leg of the 1st Preliminary Round of the Champions League.
“It’s a do-or-die game, being a qualifier to the next round, that’s how it becomes important for us. We have to raise the bar of Zambian football not just ZESCO, so we are the servants of football and that’s why I had to come back (to ZESCO),” Lwandamina told a pre-match briefing.
Tanaka Shandirwa’s goal in the first leg played in Botswana means Lwandamina must lead his charges to an outright win over the Zimbabwean club.
“They (Dynamos) are tactically good, but I am sure we have to do more than what we did in Gaborone if we are to go past them,” noted the veteran coach.
On Saturday, ZESCO will have the backing of the club’s supporters but Lwandamina believes the players must deliver at all times.
“We have to do our business on the pitch. I know fans are also important, they are the 12th player, but when you don’t have fans, you still have to play. When you have more fans, you still have to play and do your business,” stressed the former national team mentor.
Tickets for the match on Saturday are on sale at various outlets in Lusaka.
