Mohamed Salah Heads to AFCON Amid Liverpool Tensions

Mohamed Salah is set for a timely change of scenery as he joins Egypt for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, stepping away from a tense spell at Liverpool following a recent clash with manager Arne Slot.

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan confirmed the 33-year-old’s inclusion as he announced his 28-man squad on Thursday. Salah will miss at least two Premier League games while on national duty.

Hassan also called up Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush and Al Ahly winger Mahmoud Trezeguet, giving the Pharaohs a strong attacking core as they chase an eighth continental crown.

Seven-time champions Egypt kick off their campaign on 22 December against Zimbabwe, then face South Africa on 26 December, before wrapping up the group stage against Angola on 29 December.
