Sekhukhune United have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi on a permanent deal.

The 26-year-old joins Babina Noko as a free agent after leaving Pirates at the end of last season and comes in following the departure of Renaldo Leaner, who recently completed a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Confirming the signing on Friday, Sekhukhune backed Buthelezi to make his mark at the club.

“The experienced shot-stopper brings quality, experience and a winning mentality to the squad,” the club said.

Buthelezi will be aiming to revive his career after finding opportunities hard to come by at Pirates, where he featured 22 times in three seasons without cementing a regular place in the starting XI.

The former Jomo Cosmos academy product made his professional debut in the 2018/19 Motsepe Foundation Championship before earning a move to TS Galaxy. After three impressive seasons with the Rockets, he secured a switch to Pirates.

A fresh challenge at Sekhukhune now offers Buthelezi the opportunity to compete for the No. 1 jersey as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.
