Thabang Makubo extended the advantage in the 84th minute, but Richards Bay briefly threatened a late recovery when Nqaba Xulu pulled a goal back.
Sekhukhune quickly ended that uncertainty. Bethel Muzeu headed home from Siphesihle Mkhize’s cross in the 88th minute to restore the two-goal cushion and settle the contest.
The hosts finished with three different scorers, turning a tight opening half into a decisive cup victory.
For Richards Bay, Xulu’s late contribution was not enough to rescue their campaign. Sekhukhune move into the last eight with their trophy hopes intact.
