Venezuela goalkeeper Valeria Rebanales had frustrated Nigeria as they searched for an opener. The Flamingos continued creating opportunities but entered the closing stages without reward.
Oduntan’s intervention finally separated the teams, and Nigeria protected their narrow advantage until the final whistle.
The result sets up a semi-final against Brazil on Wednesday, 4 November. Brazil advanced by defeating China PR 2–1.
Nigeria’s progress continues a recovery from their opening defeat to Poland. Victories over Puerto Rico, DPR Korea and Mexico had already carried them into the quarter-finals.
Against Venezuela, patience proved decisive. The Flamingos kept searching for a goal and took their opportunity when it arrived.
Their campaign now moves into the final four, with a place in the World Cup final the next target.
