Hugo Broos has released his latest Bafana Bafana squad to take on France in a high profile international friendly match. The South Africa squad will also play Guinea in the FIFA window, set for 2022 World Cup play-off qualifiers.
As usual, Broos was vocal on ommissions and inclusions in the men’s national team. Andile Jali has been having a solid season with DSTV Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, but Broos is not impressed.
“Jali is a player that I know very well, I’ve seen him in Belgium. But not picking him is a choice I’ve made from the beginning and I’m stil okay with it. I will try other players. He’s also an older player and I’m looking for other type of players in the midfield,” explained the Belgian mentor.
Jali’s teammate Mothobi Mvala is in Broos’ good books and makes the list after impressing in the CAF Champions League win over Al Ahly of Egypt. Mvala did not even feature in the preliminary squad announced by Broos, clearly demonstrating how low the chances of Jali ever featuring under Broos are at the moment.
Percy Tau, who is not at the level that Broos wants him to, is in the squad, with Broos stating he will talk to the Egypt-based striker during camp. Lyle Foster also makes the grade, with Broos revealing that he spoke to the young striker’s handlers at Westerlo in Belgium.
“I spoke t the coaches at Westerlo and they’re happy with his game and attitude,” noted Broos.
South Africa are playing international friendlies after missing out on a FIFA World Cup play-offs spot in controversial circumstances to Ghana. Hugo Broos is now building a team to ensure that Bafana Bafana will be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
