CAF Exco To Discuss AFCON 2025 Bids

The CAF Executive Committee, EXCO, is due to meet virtually on Wednesday to discuss the AFCON 2025 bids. Dr. Patrice Motsepe. the president of CAF will chair the meeting which will also discuss Ivory Coast’s readiness to host AFCON 2023.

“The Executive Committee will discuss a number of matters including the preparations for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 including the competition qualifiers, status update of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2025 bidding process, and TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2027 bidding,” read a statement from the continental football governing body.

It is also expected that Africa Super League will be tabled at this meeting. Motsepe is on record as saying that too many teams had expressed interest in joining the league, but only 24 clubs could participate. The CAF Women’s Champions League and African Nations Championships, CHAN, bids are also on the agenda.

AFCON 2025 bids have been a hot topic with Dr. Motsepe keeping his cards close to his chest, but most football pundits believe Morocco and Algeria occupy the pound seats to host the event after Guinea was withdrawn.

South Africa might be interested in hosting the Women’s Champions League as a way of showing preparedness for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The hosting of CHAN 2024 will most likely see a repeat host as nations shy away from hosting the tournament due to low crowds and lack of interest.
