PSL Allows Fans Back Into Stadiums
The PSL has finally allowed football fans back into stadiums. Irvin Khoza, chairman of the PSL, made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon. The announcement followed two days of meetings with the PSL executive members. Khoza also announced the conditions under which fans will be allowed to enter the various venues.
“The Executive Committee of the league met yesterday and today to best implement the amended regulations for readmission of fans, urgently, safely, and responsibly. Those who’re permitted entry must showcase a vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test not older than 72 hours,” Khoza said in a televised press briefing.
The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, eased restrictions on outdoor activities last week with stadiums now allowed to take 50% of their capacity. Rugby and cricket were quick to open up stadiums for their fans while the Premier Soccer League scheduled a meeting for Monday.
The DSTV Premiership is on its final stretch with Mamelodi Sundowns way out in front of a chasing pack that includes newcomers Royal AM and Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
Those fans with teams that have been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup will have to wait a little longer to watch their beloved players live. The first matches to have fans in the stadium this season will be the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals from the 8th to the 10th of April.
