A bouyant Patrice Motsepe promises an even better 2025 AFCON
After the success of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, a buoyant Patrice Motsepe has promised an even better 2025 AFCON. The 2023 AFCON has exceeded expectations on and off the pitch for CAF.
“We have had close to two billion people watching AFCON globally,” Motsepe told a media briefing in the build-up to the final on Sunday.
On the pitch, there have upset after upset with the so-called big guns exiting Ivory Coast prematurely. None of the quarterfinalists from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations made it to the last eight this year. Angola finished top of a group that included 7-time winners Egypt. Emilio Nsue, who plays as a right-back for his club, scored five goals, including a hat trick!
“We should be proud as Africans and the next one will be even better!” beamed Motsepe.
Off the pitch, Motsepe and his administration announced more than 30 partnership and sponsorship deals. Several big broadcasting deals were sealed with the whole of Africa and most of the world covered in terms of watching the most enthralling football tournament ever. Motsepe called for more cooperation among Africans.
“The success of Africa depends upon Africa working together, trading together, and in football, countries competing and playing together,” urged the CAF president who is riding on a different wave from his predecessors.
