DR Congo Confident Ahead of Zambia Clash

The Democratic Republic of Congo is sounding very confident ahead of their AFCON 2023 clash against Zambia on Wednesday.

“We are going to field a quality eleven to put in a good match against Zambia,” head coach Sebastien Desabre told media.

The two neighbours met in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with the then Group B match ending in a 1-1 draw. Zambia have one AFCON title while DRC have two trophies both won under different names. In 1968 Congo-Kinshasa won and in 1974, Zaire lifted the trophy.

The new generation of Congolese players hope to add a third, and Chancel Mbemba, for one, has no fear of the Chipolopolo.

“We are not afraid of Zambia. We will wait until tomorrow to show what we are capable of,” the Olympic Marseille centre-back beamed confidently.

Mbemba’s main job tomorrow will be keep tabs on Zambia’s dangerman Parson Daka who has four goals already for his club, Leicester.

Group F will round of a Matchday 1 that has thrown up surprises for the football world at the 2023 AFCON. Neither Zambia nor the DRC want to be on the wrong side of a result on Wednesday.
