FAF Backs Under-fire Belmadi
Federation de Algerian Football, FAF, has reacted to the media criticism of under-fire national team coach Djamel Belmadi. Media reports in Algeria have been highly critical of Belmadi accusing him of not living in Algeria, amongst other things.
The Algerian media also accused Belmadi of not diligently following the local Algerian leagues, questioning how he is able to follow and identify talent for the senior national team. FAF released a statement backing their coach.
“Following the information relating to accommodation of the national A coach and in order to lift any equivocal on this subject, the Algerian Football Federation wishes to clarify that there are no cases that relate to this issue and that contractual obligations are met by both parties,” read part of the statement from the federation.
Algeria missed out on the 2022 World Cup after a below-average performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. With the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations only weeks away, FAF is eager to keep tensions at a minimum. This endorsement of Djamel Belmadi will go a long way in extinguishing the fire in the Algerian media.
