Jessica Motaung is hoping to envoke the spirit of 2003 as Kaizer Chiefs embark on an overseas pre-season camp. Amakhosi are headed to Turkey ahead of the 2024/5 DSTV Premiership season which is being heralded as a new dawn for the club.

“We are thankful that we are able to realise our dream of preparing the team overseas. This gives us an opportunity to promote the brand outside the borders of South Africa,” said the Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director.

While promoting the brand is important, a bigger dream would be for the club to win some silverware, hopefully. The Motaung family is bringing in a new technical team to try and reclaim the glory of yesteryear. Jessica is hopeful this squad will emulate another squad that went overseas and came back to a successful season.

“We are looking forward to a successful tour and hope it will lead us to winning, as we did when we came back from Korea in 2003,” explained Motaung.

So what happened after that Korea pre-season camp? Well, Ted Dimitru led Chiefs to a league and cup double. The Glamours Boys won the Coke Cup and 18 league matches that season. Will a new technical team and a trip to Europe deliver the same results? Jessica Motaung certainly hopes so.
