Sad Nsue has no care for individual honour after team’s AFCON exit

AFCON 2023’s current leading goalscorer is sad. Emilio Nsue could still end up as the tournament’s Golden Boot with his five goals, but this does not lift his spirits.

“Yes, that could make me happy. But, to be honest, as I speak to you, I don’t care. I think first of my team, which I took out by missing my penalty. I feel very sad,” Nsue told media after Equatorial Guinea’s exit at the hands of Guinea.

In an eventful game, Nsue hit the upright with his spot kick with the keeper going the wrong way. His teammate Bikoro has been sent off and the penalty represented Equatorial Guinea’s best chance to go ahead and then work to preserve the lead.

With football being as cruel as it is, Guinea advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to Mohamed Dayo 97th minute header. Nsue will not wait until the 11th of February to see if an individual award can put a silver lining on his AFCON cloud.
