SAFA Dismisses Broos Speculation
The South African Football Association (SAFA) has dismissed speculation over Hugo Broos’ future, insisting the Belgian remains Bafana Bafana’s head coach despite reports claiming he has left the role.
SAFA described the claims as false, maintaining there has been no change to the national team’s coaching structure.
The rumours resurfaced after Broos guided South Africa to the most successful FIFA World Cup campaign in the nation’s history. Bafana Bafana reached the knockout stages for the first time after defeating South Korea 1-0 in their final Group A clash in Monterrey, Mexico, before their journey ended in the Round of 32.
The latest speculation mirrors a familiar pattern. In 2024, Broos was linked with the Tunisia national team shortly after steering South Africa to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. Those reports ultimately proved unfounded.
Broos has since travelled to his native Belgium for a short break following Bafana Bafana’s return from the World Cup. He is expected back in South Africa later this month as preparations begin for the team’s next international assignments.
