Sundowns make history with record-breaking home run
Mamelodi Sundowns have set a new home league record after beating Marumo Gallants 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday.
The victory extended Sundowns’ unbeaten run at home in league competition to 31 matches, taking them beyond the previous record of 30 held by Kaizer Chiefs.
Sundowns’ last home league defeat came against Cape Town City in May 2024. Since then, the Brazilians have remained unbeaten at Loftus Versfeld in league matches.
The record comes during another strong period for Sundowns at home. At the end of last season, they were involved in the highest-scoring match in the PSL era when they beat Siwelele 7-4 in May.
Their current unbeaten run also includes a 2-1 victory over Royal AM in October 2024. That result was later removed from the league standings after Royal AM were expelled from the competition.
Sundowns had previously recorded 28 consecutive home league matches without defeat before Cape Town City ended that run in May 2024.
The latest victory has now taken the Brazilians beyond the 30-match mark and given them sole possession of the record.
