The war for control of Cameroon football continues as FECAFOOT puts pressure on players

Even after a big victory on the pitch, the war for control of Cameroon football continues to rage on. The football governing body, FECAFOOT, has now shifted pressure to the players ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Angola. The Samuel Eto’o-led federation wrote a letter to all the players called up for national duty.

“For the Angola – Cameroon meeting on June 11 2024 in Luanda, we ask you to remain entirely at the disposal of FECAFOOT and to respect the program which will be communicated to you shortly. FECAFOOT will no longer tolerate any violation and non-compliance with players’ obligations during the period of availability. Thus, it reserves for any deviance to apply article 6 of annex 01 of the said statute which states: Any violation of the provisions of this annex results in disciplinary sanctions which will be imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on the basis of its disciplinary code.” read part of the letter which was copied to each player’s club.

Ever since arriving in Cameroon, the national team has been housed by the Ministry of Sports, which seems hellbent on controlling most of the matters pertaining the Indomitable Lions. It is interesting to note that the same government is not showing the same energy when it comes to the women’s national team and all the junior national teams. FECAFOOT wants full control and has once again threatened to inform FIFA.

The team is scheduled to leave for Angola on Sunday and it remains to be seen under whose orders the Indomitable Lions will be hunting under. Cameroon currently sit on top of Group D with seven points.
