UJ Seal Semifinal Spot as Varsity Football Heats Up

Round 6 of Varsity Football brought drama, goals, and shifting fortunes as UJ booked their place in the semifinals with a narrow Gauteng derby win, while UP-Tuks finally found their scoring boots in emphatic fashion.

At a packed UJ Soweto Stadium, the Orange Army edged rivals TUT 1-0 thanks to Keletso Sekhwela’s decisive strike. The result keeps UJ top of the log and guarantees them a spot in the last four.

In Johannesburg, UFS showed grit to down Wits 1-0 away, securing second place in the standings and punching their ticket to the semifinals. Omphemetse Athibeng netted the vital goal, while Iviwe Dyabuza impressed with a commanding midfield display.

NWU kept their top-four charge alive with a 1-0 victory over DUT at the Harry Gwala Stadium. Thabang Majoro grabbed the winner as the Mafikeng side held their nerve in front of a raucous crowd.

In Pretoria, UP-Tuks finally came alive, thrashing CUT 5-0 for their first win of the campaign. Raymond Matlamela starred with a stunning hat-trick and an assist, inspiring the Stripe Generation to a dominant performance that keeps their slim semifinal hopes alive.
