West Indies Stars Set to Ignite Pretoria Capitals’ SA20 Season 4 Campaign
Centurion is gearing up for a Caribbean-flavoured spectacle as four West Indies stars prepare to light up Pretoria Capitals’ Betway SA20 Season 4 campaign.
The Capitals have added serious firepower with the arrival of Andre “Dr Dre” Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase and Shai Hope, a quartet steeped in T20 pedigree and flair. West Indies remain global trailblazers in the shortest format, having lifted the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016, thanks to their fearless and entertaining brand of cricket.
Leading the charge is Andre Russell, a two-time T20 World Cup winner whose explosive all-round abilities make him one of the most feared players in world cricket. His return carries a sense of nostalgia, having launched his IPL career with the Delhi Daredevils in 2012 — a franchise now aligned with the Capitals brand. Big-hitter Sherfane Rutherford also shares a history with the Delhi Capitals, making his return in SA20 colours all the more fitting.
They are joined by dependable all-rounder Roston Chase and experienced top-order batter Shai Hope, whose consistency and leadership continue to shine across international and league cricket.
Newly appointed Capitals captain Keshav Maharaj believes the West Indies contingent brings both experience and leadership to the squad.
“The overseas players — Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase and Andre Russell — have phenomenal T20 records and bring strong leadership,” Maharaj said.
“Shai Hope has been in outstanding form across formats. He’s a true leader in West Indian cricket and in leagues around the world.”
Beyond the Caribbean influence, the Season 1 runners-up boast a powerful local core featuring Dewald Brevis, Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams, while the coaching setup adds further pedigree with Sourav Ganguly and former Proteas great Shaun Pollock guiding the team.
Excitement is building ahead of the Capitals’ Season 4 opener against rivals Joburg Super Kings on 27 December at Centurion, with the tournament officially getting underway on 26 December.
Capitals’ 20th Player Leandie du Randt has also called on local supporters to bring the atmosphere that Centurion is known for.
“I’m looking forward to my Pretoria mense bringing the gees,” du Randt said.
“Nobody puts the ‘pret’ in Pretoria like people from Centurion. Bring your family and friends — let’s make it a summer to remember.”
Fans attending matches can expect more than just top-class cricket, with family-friendly entertainment, live DJs, giveaways, kids’ activities, dance cams and on-field fun. Several partners are also offering exciting prizes, including Betway’s Catch R2 Million challenge, a Suzuki Swift GL+ giveaway, cash rewards for Absa cardholders, and interactive fan competitions throughout the tournament.
With tickets selling fast across all six venues, supporters are urged to secure their seats early via SA20.co.za or at stadium ticket offices. Gates open three hours before the first ball, giving fans plenty of time to soak up the full Betway SA20 experience.
This summer, Centurion promises cricket, culture and carnival — Caribbean style.
