Benghazi win was important, says Supersport’s Hunt
Supersport United coach, Gavin Hunt says the home win against Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya was important for the squad. Matsatsantsa A Pitori picked up their first points of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage thanks to a late winner from in-form Etiosa Ighodaro.
It was Ighodaro’s second late winner after netting against Moroka Swallows in yet another 2-1 victory for Gavin Hunt’s men.

“Look, the win was important seeing as we had not won in the group. I think the way we played was good, you know. I thought we played with good energy, you know, good determination under very difficult conditions or circumstances, whatever you wanna call them. It was good,” said Hunt after the eventful match.
Goalkeeper Washington Arubi found himself back in the changeroom after only 32 mins thanks to a red card, with Benghazi’s Ahmed Abdulaziz Mody joining him in the 52nd minute after seeing red.
Gavin Hunt again expressed delight at being able to give more youngsters game time in the continental tournament.
“We brought through another one or two youngsters again which obviously the philosophy of our club, to try and bring through these younger ones. All of them are good, but one or two of them were really outstanding last night,” noted the former Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows, and Chippa United coach.
After the win, Hunt will now focus on the DSTV Premiership and the chase for second place which would mean another season of continental football. Supersport meet fellow second-place chasers Orlando Pirates.
“We’ll have a go, we always have a go. We play properly and try and do the best with what we’ve got. They’ve won six or seven in a row, haven’t they? They’ve got the squad. I mean they’ve got a far better squad, it’s magnificent. They’ve got a player for every position,” mused Hunt ahead of the crunch league game.
