Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos has revealed that he is not affected by those that criticise his work with the national team. The Belgian Africa Cup of Nations winner says he is motivated by the increased number of critics.
“We had 13 points, and I did a little research, in the last 10, 12 years all the qualifiers that South Africa played for World Cup of for AFCON you never had 13 points. The maximum was 12. That means what we did was not so bad, and still, after our match against Ghana there were critics,” Broos told members of the media at a briefing in Johannesburg.
Hugo Broos has never been one to hold back when given a chance to speak, and his latest press conference was no different. The former Cameroon national team boss said he was not affected by people who rushed to criticised him.
“I do not understand why suddenly, they were so many critics. I can tell you now, that those critics don’t affect me because they were so childish and cheap. It’s easy when results are to start to break up everything. The coach had to resign and so on and so on. This is cheap and short-sighted. I can assure you that this doesn’t affect me, it doesn’t put pressure on me, it motivates me,” stressed Broos.
Broos is preparing South Africa for what should be a straightforward qualifying campaign for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast. With Zimbabwe suspended by FIFA, Bafana Bafana need to finish top two in a group which includes Morocco and Liberia. Broos warned against thinking that qualification was a foregone conclusion.
“No, it will not be easy. Maybe we have a better chance, but it will not be easy. Nothing is easy,” warned Broos.
South Africa plays Morocco next week before meeting Liberia for a doubleheader in November. Broos can certainly expect a lot more critics to emerge if Bafana Bafana do not make light work of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
