Baba Yara Only Option For Medeama
The Baba Yara Stadium has emerged as the only option for Medeama SC if the team wants to play CAF Champions League games in Ghana. This comes after the Cape Coast Stadium failed to meet the standards for hosting international matches.
CAF inspectors found that Medeama’s first choice for hosting CAF Champions League needed upgrades and renovations before it can host any international matches.
“Formal prohibition is made to use the Cape Coast Stadium in the group stage phase of the CAF interclub competitions 2023-24 and any other CAF/FIFA men’s senior national teams competitions. Medeama are requested to select a venue from among the stadiums approved by CAF to host the group stage phase and knockout rounds of the CAF inter-club competitions 2023-24,” read the correspondence from CAF.
Medeama will host Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Algerian club CR Beliouzdad and Young Africans of Tanzania in Group D of the Champions League. The club has not yet released an official statement on CAF’s decision to reject Cape Coast Stadium.
