The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled for 21 November at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, while the 2026 CAF Awards will take place on 7 December at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos.
The awards ceremony recognises outstanding achievements in African football and brings together leading players, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders from across the continent.
CAF Assesses Venues in Lagos and Abuja
The inspection team is scheduled to arrive in Lagos before visiting key facilities, including the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Eko Hotel & Suites and Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The delegation will also engage with officials from the Lagos State Government as part of efforts to ensure the necessary arrangements are in place for the awards ceremony.
In Abuja, the inspectors will assess the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The programme will also include courtesy visits to the chairman and director-general of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission.
Second Inspection Ahead of Major CAF Events
The visit follows an initial inspection conducted between 31 July and 4 August, when CAF officials met representatives of institutions and government agencies involved in hosting the events.
Those discussions focused on coordination, communication and the preparations required to deliver the two gatherings successfully.
The latest visit is expected to provide a further assessment of progress and allow CAF officials to engage directly with the relevant stakeholders before the events take place.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), a six-member delegation from the federation, led by Dr Ademola Olajire, will accompany the CAF inspectors during their visits to Lagos and Abuja.
The inspections form part of Nigeria’s preparations to host two important dates on CAF’s calendar, with the final assessments expected to help identify any outstanding issues ahead of November’s General Assembly and December’s awards ceremony.
