CAF Opens Media Tender as Africa’s Biggest Festival Heads East

Broadcasters across Africa are being invited to battle for the rights to bring the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations to millions of viewers when Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda stage the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the media rights to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, setting the stage for another major battle over the continent’s most sought-after football broadcasting property.

The tournament will take place across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027, marking the first time the AFCON will be jointly hosted by three nations.

Who will show AFCON 2027?

CAF’s Invitation to Tender covers both Free-to-Air (FTA) and Pay-TV rights across the Sub-Saharan African territory.

The rights package includes broadcasts in:

  • English
  • Swahili
  • Portuguese
  • isiZulu
  • Wolof
  • Yoruba
  • Other local languages

French-language Pay-TV rights are excluded from the 2027 tender.

Interested broadcasters and media companies have until 14 September 2026 at 17h00 Cairo time to submit their bids.

A broadcasting prize worth fighting for

The scale of the opportunity is underlined by the extraordinary audience figures generated by the most recent AFCON.

CAF says the 2025 AFCON in Morocco attracted more than 3.2 billion TV viewers and six billion digital views, making it the world’s third-largest national-team football event behind the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship.

With the 2027 tournament heading to East Africa, CAF will be looking to build on that momentum and deliver even greater global exposure.

The PAMOJA edition is also expected to generate significant interest in the region, with Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda preparing to welcome Africa’s best national teams.

CAF also puts other tournaments on the market

AFCON 2027 is not the only competition included in CAF’s latest media-rights drive.

The governing body has also opened tenders covering several upcoming competitions, including:

  • AFCON 2027 qualifying competition
  • Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations 2026
  • Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Ghana 2027
  • Africa U-17 Cup of Nations Morocco 2027
  • Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026
  • Africa U-23 Cup of Nations Egypt

The move highlights CAF’s continued push to expand the commercial value and global reach of its competitions beyond the senior AFCON.

The race for the airwaves begins

For broadcasters, the 2027 AFCON represents more than simply another football tournament. It is an opportunity to secure access to one of Africa’s biggest sporting audiences at a time when digital consumption and football viewership continue to grow.

And with three East African nations preparing to host the continent, the battle for who gets to bring the PAMOJA AFCON to fans at home has officially begun.
