Cape Town City in last ditch effort to stay in Betway Premiership

Cape Town City FC players

Relegated Cape Town City FC are in a last ditch attempt to stay in the Betway Premiership. This comes after the SAFA Arbitration Committee ruled that the PSL Disciplinary Committee must re-open a case.

The case involves Bloemfontein-based Marumo Gallants. The player in question is Monde Mphambaniso who played 20 league games for Gallants. Seven of those 20 games were wins. Mphambaniso was on the teamsheet for seven draws as well.

If he is found to be ineligible, Mphambaniso would cost Marumo Gallants 28 points. This sizeable cut in points would see John Comitis and his Cape Town City survive relegation. It would also see the Premier Soccer League dive into very messy waters.

Marumo Gallants would potentially have to participate in a re-run of the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs. A situation the league would like avoid at all costs with the 2025/6 Betway Premiership set to kick off in less than two weeks.
