Coach Rhulani Reacts To Familiar Draw

Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Rhulani Mokwena, has reacted to the CAF Champions League draw, labelling it as familiar.

The DSTV Premiership champions will play perennial foes Al Ahly of Egypt, Sudan’s Al Hilal, and longtime absentee, Cotonsport of Cameroon.

“There’s is resemblance and familiarity to our 2020 group. We travel again to Egypt, and we had an interesting trip to Sudan which I think will be the case again this year,” said Mokwena after the draw which was held in Cairo, Egypt.

Al Hilal has changed coaches since the last time Coach Rhulani and Mamelodi Sundowns were there, but the coach expects the same tough assignment this season.

“There are familiar faces like Gerald Phiri there, and even though they’ve changed coaches there is still a strong Portuguese influence in the squad,” noted Mokwena.

Mokwena also acknowledged the experience of Al Hilal’s coach, Congolese Lorient Ibenge who has been in the group stages of continental competitions with RS Berkane and TP Mazembe.

“The challenge for us is to get out of the group. That’s the number one challenge,” stressed Mokwena.
