De Miguel was taken to hospital but died on Tuesday morning.

The Equatorial Guinean Football Federation confirmed Owono’s absence and expressed support for the goalkeeper, who has been deeply affected by the incident.

Owono, who has represented Equatorial Guinea at the last three AFCON tournaments, described the tragedy as one of the most difficult periods of his life.

His absence leaves Equatorial Guinea without their established first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the crucial qualifiers.

The two countries are scheduled to meet on 12 November, with Zimbabwe hosting the return fixture at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on 16 November.
