It’s Official: Pitso Mosimane Unveiled as New Bafana Bafana Coach
The wait is over. Pitso Mosimane has been officially confirmed as Bafana Bafana’s new head coach, ending weeks of speculation, negotiation and back-and-forth with SAFA following Hugo Broos’s departure.
The decorated coach was unveiled at SAFA House on Tuesday, with president Danny Jordaan finally tying up the “loose ends” that had delayed the announcement since NEC approval back in August — chief among them, contract terms and Mosimane’s demand to bring in trusted lieutenants Kabelo Rangoaga (fitness coach) and Musi Matlaba (performance analyst).
True to form, Mosimane struck a humble tone on his unveiling. “I know that this is bigger than Pitso Mosimane. I accept this role with great humility,” he said, adding: “I take this responsibility knowing that I still have something to give in football, especially in my country.”
Round Two for Jingles
This marks Mosimane’s second permanent spell in charge of the national team, having first held the job between 2010 and 2012 — a reign that ended in heartbreak when Bafana were controversially eliminated from AFCON 2012 qualifying on a head-to-head technicality despite a 0-0 draw with Sierra Leone.
He returns a completely different animal, though — armed with a CAF Champions League triumph at Mamelodi Sundowns (2016) and two more continental crowns at Al Ahly, where he reached three straight finals.
No Time to Settle
There’s no honeymoon period on offer. Mosimane walks straight into AFCON 2027 qualifiers, with Bafana set to face Guinea and Eritrea in September — and he’s already expected to name his first squad tomorrow at 12:00.
He also inherits a team riding the high of a historic World Cup 2026 run under Broos, where Bafana reached the knockout stages for the first time ever — raising the bar sky-high before Mosimane has even picked his first XI.
The message from Mosimane’s camp is unmistakable: this isn’t just another job. It’s unfinished business — and Bafana Bafana’s next chapter starts now.
