Loftus Versfeld is set for epic Champions League battle as Cardoso vows to fight till the end
The Loftus Versfeld Stadium is set for an epic CAF Champions League battle on Friday night. Mamelodi Sundowns welcome fellow former champions, Esperance de Tunis in the final 90 minutes to decide who goes to through to the final.
Miguel Cardoso, the Esperance coach, is under no illusion about the task ahead if the Tunisian club wants to preserve its 1-0 first leg lead.
“My players are aware of the responsibility that lies on their shoulders and are determined to fight until the end and never give up,” said Cardoso as the team trained in Pretoria.
Yan Sasse’s goal may be enough for Cardoso if the Tunisians continue to be stingy with chances as they have been throughout the competition so far. It will not be an easy task against a team with an impeccable record at Loftus Versfeld.
“The match will obviously be very hard for everyone, but we are capable of making the difference at any time in the match. We have the experience and talent to qualify for the final,” stressed Cardoso.
Defending champions Al Ahly take on TP Mazembe in the other semifinal, and should the Egyptians win, Sundowns and Esperance will qualify for the 2025 Club World Cup.
