Morocco Set Up Judicial Posts In AFCON Stadiums

As Morocco steps up preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), authorities have unveiled additional measures aimed at ensuring the tournament runs smoothly — both on and off the pitch.

Among the latest initiatives is the establishment of judicial offices within stadiums that will host AFCON matches. The move is designed to strengthen organisational efficiency and security during the continental showpiece, which is expected to attract large crowds and supporters from across Africa and beyond.

The on-site judicial units will focus on the swift handling of minor offences that may occur inside stadium precincts, allowing authorities to resolve issues quickly without disrupting the flow of the tournament.

Speaking in Rabat on Friday, Director of Criminal Affairs, Pardons and Crime Detection at Morocco’s Ministry of Justice, Hicham Mellati, said the initiative responds directly to the unique challenges posed by hosting a major sporting event of AFCON’s scale.

“These judicial offices will allow for the rapid and efficient processing of minor infractions that may occur inside stadiums,” Mellati said during the inauguration of a judicial office at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex. He added that the measure is crucial given the expected influx of spectators from different countries.

According to Mellati, the initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to support the successful hosting of AFCON 2025. Dedicated judicial units will be responsible for handling low-level offences and misdemeanours linked specifically to sporting events, ensuring order is maintained without unnecessary delays.

He noted that the system is inspired by best practices from other major international sporting tournaments, aiming to balance efficiency with fairness. Importantly, Mellati emphasised that all procedures will fully comply with Morocco’s legal framework, guaranteeing due process and respect for judicial standards.

With these measures in place, Morocco continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering a safe, well-organised and world-class AFCON 2025.
