Motsepe calls out Mamelodi Sundowns fans on poor turnouts

Motsepe calls on fans

Mamelodi Sundowns FC chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe, has called out the club’s fans. Motsepe expects to see more Masandawana supporters inside stadiums for the upcoming season.

“Now, a new season is upon us, and while every season brings new opportunities, this will be different,” the young club chairman proclaimed.

Despite dominating the South African league for more than a decade, Sundowns have failed to attract active supporters. It is a long-running joke in the league that the perennial champions only have 57 followers.

“This season, we will have to answer a question: what kind of club do we want to be? Our players and coaches showed that we can compete with the world’s best. But can we, the supporters, show that we are ready to walk that journey with them? Can we show up in numbers to Mamelodi Sundowns games? Can we lift our team when hope fades? Can we dominate away stands and turn every stadium into a display of yellow dominance?” queried Motsepe.

Traditionally, you are either a Kaizer Chiefs or, you align with Orlando Pirates when it comes to football in South Africa. Mamelodi Sundowns have tried rewarding supporter branches that for bringing in new fans but this has not turned into a packed stadium except when they play the afore-mentioned Soweto clubs.

“Big clubs are not only defined by silverware – but by the size, passion, and consistency of their supporters. This season, we need you more than ever. A re yeng Masandawana, our team needs us.”
