Orlando Pirates confirm player movements ahead of the season restart
CAF Champions League-spot-chasing Orlando Pirates have confirmed the club’s player movements ahead of the DSTV Premiership restart in February. Clubs in South Africa are using the transfer window and AFCON break to make some decisive moves to try and close the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Buccaneers, as Orlando Pirates are commonly known, have enlisted Thabiso Lebitso on a two-and-half-year deal. Lebitso left Chippa United last year in a decision believed to be a way to join Pirates without necessarily involving administrative negotiations. Thalente Mbatha has hopped aboard the ship on a 6-month loan from rivals Supersport United.
Cameroon striker Bienvenu Eva Nga has been thrown overboard after an unhappy stint on the Bucs ship. Nga did not reach the heights Pirates expected when they beat Kaizer Chief in the race to sign him. With Nga gone, Tsegofatsa Mabasa has been recalled from his successful loan spell at the other Soweto rivals, Moroka Swallows.
With the transfer window at midnight on Friday, it is highly unlikely that Orlando Pirates will make any more significant signings. The DSTV Premiership resumes in mid-February.
