Prize Money For CAF Women’s Champions League Revealed
The CAF Women’s Champions League will have prize money this year. In a released statement, CAF announced the clubs at the tournament to be held in Morocco from the 30th of October will receive monetary rewards for their efforts.
Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa did not receive any money for lifting the trophy in 2021, with CAF saying no prize money was approved for the tournament that was also played in Morocco.
“The CAF Women’s Champions League is the flagship competition of women’s club football on African soil and a giant step towards advancing women’s football in Africa,” read the media release for CAF.
The winners of this year’s competition will pocket US$400 000.00, which is still a far cry from the men’s winning prize of US$2 500 000.00. Women’s football on the continent of Africa is still in the doldrums when it comes to corporate sponsorships and backing. Most companies and government departments only become visible if the women’s clubs or nations win a major tournament.
